Seasons of the Sycamore Tree

These thumbnail images show the seasonal changes in the *foliage* of a sycamore tree that grows along the banks of Sabino Creek. *Deciduous* trees grow near the creek. They use their long tap roots to reach for a drink from deep underground. Deciduous plants and trees like the sycamore respond to changes in the number of hours of light and darkness in a 24-hour period. Their leaves change color and fall off in the autumn when daylight hours grow shorter.

If you visit Sabino, you can see this tree on the north side of the West Bridge in Lower Sabino Canyon.
