Coyote

Did you know that one coyote eats about 200 pounds of meat each year?

That is equal to 75 jackrabbits, 100 cottontail rabbits, or 5,000 round-tailed ground squirrels!

Coyote Quick Facts:

Color: mostly gray fur with lighter legs and belly
Length: 28 to 38 inches long plus 11 to 16 inch long tail
Weight: 25 to 35 pounds
Description: looks like a large thin dog, large pointy ears, long legs and long bushy tail
Young: usually 2 to 6, up to 12, called "pups"
Food: *omnivore* that eats rodents including ground squirrels, small mammals like rabbits, sometimes deer, insects, and saguaro fruits and mesquite beans
Predators: mountain lions, wolves
humans: to protect livestock
Home: called a den
Active: nocturnal

Range: has expanded its range to include most of the United States, Canada, and Mexico
